Redridge,

What short shifter do you think would be best for the money?

sorry to hijack the post but I have been looking at a few, one of them is the Schnell.

for the 996, I would go with B&M... which is also the same shifter as porsches' sport shifter... stay away from the ebay shifters (they use inferior bushings that will cause slop in a year or so... schnell is no exception)

I have to agree with Redridge's advice. While you can certainly save some money going with a cheaper kit, I think this is piece warrants the extra price of high quality and proven manufacturing. The last thing you want to do is skimp and have it fall apart or heaven forbid damage your car while in use.

Is the B&M shifter you are referring to the same one that was advertised on this site a while back for $100 or $150?

I had it. Fitment wasn't perfect and the shifter never returned to the position I can only describe as "central neutral"... you know, how the shifter pops back into the center so if you push straight forward you're in 3rd. The Schnell always stayed exactly where you put it. Decently built, but I really like the B&M I switched to.

I'm sure I still have it lying around somewhere if you're interested
