V1 in all vehicles, tried others 9500 etc, V1 > all. Arrows are priceless since there are a bunch of speed traps here with cops in different positions.

V1's are in demand too, the one I had in my truck got stolen. Check this out, left it unlocked (ok my fault) but my house is in a gated community. I was leaving that night in about an hour. Come out and my door is part open, my wallet is right there with cash and my media phone (8525) right there in plain view....they only took the V1.

OK, so how do you use your car? Do you travel to areas where RD's are illegal? You are in upstate NY, do you travel to Canada? Do you know what are the predominant type of radar guns in use where you drive? Certain RD's do better with different frequencies. Do a couple hours research first.

If you live in the US and in a state where RD's are legal, the V1 is the best choice.

we got 2 escort 8500's when they came out. we've been happy with them and they've worked fine. eventually we'll probably purchase one v1 and 1 9500 just for variety

Valentine One because of the direction arrows.

My C4S came with a built-in Escort SR7 radar. It's nice, but I miss the direction arrows.

Ok, after 2 hours of web research, I'm sold on the V1. Next question... Do any of you have any information about a permanent mount up by the rear view mirror? The blend mount looks nice but the site states that it doesn't work on Porsche vehicles. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hardwire the unit and mount it next to the rear view mirror. Then get a remote display. Have the remote mounted on the dash underneath the registration sticker. That's a good location for line-of-site viewing plus it's hidden from view. When I got my remote there was a guy on ebay selling modified remotes with different color lights for each type of radar...nice extra feature...

Rthomason:

At first I wanted to get one (V1), But after thinking about it I think I would speed more often then not. And thought that if I just don't get a decetor I would be better off. Cause of the false sence of security.

There is a time to speed and a time to not! I just read the traffic.

I have a V1 and a 9500IX, hands down the V1 is the best.

I only use a V1, and i find it so useful, its in a drawer somewhere and i probably haven't seen it in over a year!

ha!

sure it saved me a few times, but too many times cops have come from behind or i've seen cops sitting without there radar on (as evidenced by my silent V1). and not to mention the constant falsing where i drive now, makes it pretty much unusable.

(it WAS useful when my commute was 80 miles one way (all highway) in NH, but not now.)

the false sense of security isn't worth it for me. i do better on my own.

V1 has saved me countless times. I would never take a long roadtrip without it.

I have the escort 8500, it allows you to shut off the X Band which removes most false alarms. It has an earplug for my motorcycles also.

Rthompson -

You ask the right questions about a good RD, v1 v Escort - however, before you purchase, you might want to consider what has noticably been missed by all in the forum.

you are down to 2 of 3 of the best in radar detectors (you may want to consider Bel as well as Escort and V1). Again, to start, you don’t want to ignore the answers from your friends here in the forum but agian, if you don't mind, here are some very important points to consider:

Consider your purchase is not just for a one time product buy, but that you are making an investment in your driving future and driving peace of mind (and don’t’ forget – you want to save money by not being successfully targeted and ticketed by any law enforcement means available either today or on into the future). Some things to consider when you invest in a RGD (really good detector):
1. Like other technologies, w/ RDs you have to spend enough to get capable technology – therefore, a visit to the local WM for a $99 detector is a waste of your time and money as that level of cost v. performance does not cover all the guns, all the bands and w/ enough range to do you any good. – don't waste your money on a cheap detector.
2. also consider that your investment should give you future returns by keeping you safe against all the guns, all the time. everyone in this forum, including you, are correct in suggesting Escort and Valentine (and let’s not forget to add Bel). All 3 brands mentioned (v1, Escort and Bel STi) see all the guns w/ enough range to help you react in time to take preventative measures and not get stopped. Though primary to performance, this is not the only criteria – in fact, we’re just getting started.
3. you also need to consider w/ seriousness, the possibility of the rare but possible, "dead in their sites laser gun" attack – as you and the others here in the 6speed forum know, laser can be deadly due to the technology being a) nearly instantaneous and b) single target capable which means when he sights and fires the laser, if you are the target, you are the only one caught and it is deadly accurate. Considering this very important criteria, of the 3 top brands, only Escort and Bel have add-on systems that completely disarm the laser gun and prevent it from targeting and tracking you for purposes of being stopped. Both the Escort and the Bel systems are thorough in their operation and relatively easy to add on once you have purchased their windshield mount detectors. ie, you don't have to buy all the pieces immediately but instead you can always add the 'shifters'/'blockers' when you're ready. all of their models work w/ their affordable laser 'shifting'/'blocking' systems. The V1 simply does not have this option.
4. and finally, and fast becoming the most important criteria (as we are speaking of investments), you need to make yourself aware of the single greatest increasing threat of being stopped today - the rapid placement of red light and speed cameras being deployed all across North America. Thousands already active w/ more being added/installed every single day. Only Escort (the Passport 9500ix) and Bel (Bel Pro GX65) have a detector that is fully prepared to asses and alert you to these threats accurately and only Escort and Bel offer you web ready detectors for instant, easy downloads that allow you to keep your increasing threat database updated on all of these imposing new threat locations. Again, no technology of this type is available from the V1.
5. bonus (and for purposes of driving comfort and confidence) reconsider your past drives in the urban area w/ a RD … if you have driven with past RDs, as all of your friends on the blog have, you will get dozens of alerts from those detectors ... and none of them will be real threats. that's because many of the security systems installed in many businesses around you and nearly all of the automatic door openers at all of the local stores, businesses and corner gas stops, operate in the same bands as do law enforcement guns. all other brand detectors have no technology to know the difference and so they work as simple receivers (dumb receivers) and alert you to all of these non-threats! Again, only Escort and Bel have patented GPS technology to analyze, lockout and eliminate these false alert threats and let you drive w/ a detector that works as a detector and not as a simple, false alert noise generator. for me, this one is huge - if you ever have the chance to drive w/ the escort 9500ix, you'll quickly appreciate just how QUIET it is driving through urban areas ... simply outstanding engineering. no way v1 even comes close - its incessant chirping will drive you crazy - the arrows cannot outweigh this liability.

With help from your friends here in the forum and independent info, as in the sites suggested, you have the opportunity to choose, w/ knowledge, the best choice in complete protection w/ all the options and the technology to meet current and new, increasing threats, stop from being successfully laser targeted, eliminate all the false alert threats and all of this in one brand - for me, it comes down to Bel or Escort.
