secret satellite antenna spot?

anyone ever hear of a satellite antenna spot under the plastic cover between the windshield and hood (where the wipers attach)?

a local stereo shop told me all 996's come from the factory with a spot to install satellite antennas under there...

if true, i wonder how the plastic would affect the signal? any thoughts?

I have mine hidden under the alarm light, it is a plastic cover, and I have no issues for signal reception.

Same here... I was even able to fit both my XM and GPS antenna units there with no issues. Makes it easy to run the wires to since it is a direct shot to the radio location from there. I was running a Pioneer Avic-D3.

Yep, it was a tight fit and I had to place them sideways to each other instead of front to back like you normally would but they both did fit. The fact that they were sideways in the dash did not seem to matter to the GPS either.

Use plenty of protecting material around your dash. I used a piece of sturdy plastic to protect right where i needed to lever with a screw driver to "pop" that plastic cover off.

Then you have to unscrew (Torx) each side of the metal base to move it around o you can cleanly run the cable to the middle of the center console.

You also have to remove the center vent of the center console to have easy access to the wire.

I remember spending a lot of time hesitating to pop this thing off but eventually it came...

Good Luck!

Once the plastic cover is removed pull the sensor out of the way and take a dremel tool with a thin cutting wheel and cut a 1/8" slot on the rightside of the sensor holder for the wire. Pull out the upper ac vent (there are 2 tabs on the top of it between the dash to depress. You can now push the GPS wire down and grab it and pull thru over the ac duct. Reinstall sensor cover and ac vent Done! I did it last night

thanks for the great tips!

once the wire is ran into the ac vent, how do you run it to the satellite component?

is the ac vent easy to pull off?

I've had an AVIC-Z2 in both my Z06 and my Evo X with the GPS and Siriuis antennae both under the dash pad and have never had an issue with reception as well.

The spot being talked about under the alarm sensor cover is the location used for the Porsche TrafficPro nav antenna. You should be able to track down the TrafficPro install instructions from Porsche that will give you step-by-step and pictures for running the cable.
