Blinking temperature light?

My (new to me) 1999 C2 Cab will, during spirited driving, start blinking the temperature light at me. The manual says that it could be low coolant or overheating. The temperature seems to stay in the 180-190 range, so it doesn't seem like it is overheating, and I had my tech top off the coolant level the other day, but it did it again after the top off.

It only blinks for a few minutes, and then goes off again.

Anything to worry about?

Shawn

It is low coolant, most common problem with this is the tank its self has a leak or cap needs to be changed.

Shawn!
Usually not something to worry about on the older models.
You will find many posts about replacing the cap on the coolant tank which were often defective.
I believe one indicator of the caps that go "bad" is the part number incl. "00" written on the cap.

if the smoke (whitish, sweet smelling) only lasted a short time, then it is probably coolant that spilled out of coolant tank onto drivers side exhaust pipes.
If continuous..........better have it checked!!

I bet the cap is the problem. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Of course this is also the first usual symptom of an intermix problem. Check your coolant tank to see if there is any evidence of oil (the coolant will look like mayonaise) and then check the oil to see if there is any evidence of coolant ( the oil will llok like chocolate milk). For both of your sakes I hope it is just a bad cap or a cracked cooant tank, which are both common problems.

But for those of us who have experienced an intermix problem, it ssems these problems are far more common than they should be.

Good luck, I hope your problems are simple low cost caps or tanks. Keep us posted.

Coolant level is NOT the only cause of a blinking temp light. If your engine compartment gets too warm, it will flash exactly the same. Check your fan operation.
