Getting a 996. Guys, give me a hand.

Ok, update time. I've found a nice '00 car with 40000 miles on the clock. So far everything looks almost too good - one owner, fsh, no accidents, garaged etc. The price is also very good and the car's for sale at a Porsche dealership. A friend is going to take a look at it and if it turns out good, then PPI.
Fingers crossed

If i were you i would look 02 or newer...but from your list go #1 with that kind of mileage if it has not had any problems you should be good....there is an IMS Bearing and seal kit from LN Engineering that puts a monster shaft and ceramic bearing in there to get rid of the potential for problems....

Yeah, when I eventually get the car, there will be pics
Looks like it'll take at least two weeks, IF everything goes as planned. Takes a bit time when you have be working at the same time. Fingers crossed...
The reason I'm looking for a ´99 or ´00 car is taxes. Taxes on a ´02 car are about double compared to a ´00 car. Emissions based after ´00...

I see many responses mentioning a PPI and the concern around engine life. I am contemplating my first Porsche purchase a 2004 996 with a little over 19,000 miles from a dealer and the car is CPO..... So
1) should i be concerned about engine life?
2) should i get a pre purchase inspection
many thanks

What? these engines only last 50k??? You guys are worrying me now.
Reason I ask is that I have 50k and no extended warranty.
I thought Porsche motors were build to outperform and not break down at 50k miles.

I am looking for an extended warranty that will cover my car or I am selling it. Porsche did not design the engines or their business practices to repair engines and trannies, you must replace them. And in this economy, I can't cover the $15K expense of either one blowing up right now, so I basically can't afford to own the car unless I can find a warranty.
It is extremely hard to find a warranty if the car is outside of warranty. I have some leads, but it looks iffy to me.
