Heated seats in non-equiped car?

Can heated seats be installed in a car without? I realize that switches are needed, but is the wiring already there in the dash? And do the seats plug right in to the existing harness? I've got the full power memory seats currently in my '99, thanks!

Try this link. This company claims to have a ready to install kit for the 996. I have been considering this mod as well.

Thats a non-OEM install. If want an OEM installation then check out this site/article

I used this to add heated seats to my 2000 996 Cab. Got all the parts from Sunset. About $600.00 for the parts. Slight variations for a 996, not much though. He put the switches in the console by the window switches. With a Cab these spots are used for the rear windows. The standard spot for the switches is in the lower console. If you need any help on adopting the Boxster plans for a 996 let me know.

The OEM with a custom wiring harness seems like a significant amount of work and possibly higher risk overall. I have looked at using the Porsche OEM switches with these aftermarket heating elements and can't find any reason why they would not work. This approach seems more straight forward and at a much lower cost while preserving the OEM look.

The wiring harness is really not that complicated, just a few wires. The OEM Tip switches are used to cycle through relays located under the seats, so to use then you would need a systems that uses relays. Also the OEM cushions fit perfectly. However this Ebay setup is alot less expensive.

I bought 996 factory heated seats though, so don't I just need to make electrical connections? Are the existing connectors set up for heated seats? Do I just add switches or have to run new wires to the seats?

I bought one of the aftermarket seat heaters from Maxspeed, but planning on using the OEM seat heater swtches in the batwing, and been checking rentech and rennlist for installation installations using the oem switches and relays, if everything is successful then I'll do the passenger seat, your fortunate that you already have the seating elements in the seats, I have to pull them apart. The car is still hibernating, so when I have a free day, then I'll tackle this job, I am planning on doing a test hookup outside the car, to make sure it runs with the relays and OEM switch. I have a Metropol blue interior, so buying heated used seats is hard to find.

When I acually do the job I'll photograph the wiring and relay procedure for the OEM switches.
