Widebody question

Widebody question
I've always wondered what the reason was for the AWD porsches to be widebody. I know it fits slightly larger wheels/tires but what does this have to do with AWD?
Do some people buy a C4 or C4S and convert it to RWD just to get the widebody but still have RWD?

Some have taken their 996TT's and converted them to RWD, but I have not heard of anyone doing it with a C4S. However, there is no reason you couldn't do it.

Has Porsche released any statements about the purposes and advantages of widebody vs narrow body? I may be wrong but doesn't the GT3 have a narrow body? If so I figure there must be advantages to the narrow body as well.

I would guess it was for the turbo to run wider tires. Pretty much each generation if turbo has got flared rear arches to accomodate larger rear rubber. The C4S inherited these traits simply because it was based on the turbo.
There are many many threads of people comparing the C2 and C4S at the track.... The cliff notes: they're about the same.
Of course for me - I absolutely love the look of the wider ****. .

Too funny...I was just wondering the other day if anyone ever bought a C4S and chose to convert it to RWD (like the turbo owners are fond of doing when they make home-made GT2s). I was actually going to create a thread asking if anyone had done that when I saw this thread.
