It's not like you have a sub par car as is! Enjoy it for what it is.

well I'm going for all oem parts including fenders apart from the rear GT3 bumper.....which I am going to get from the company for which i put the link at the beginning of the post.

Hmmmm now I'm not sure if I should leave the car with the 18" GT3 sport design wheels.....standard factory 996 gt3 mk1 wheels or maybe go for the wheels on the grey convertible shown in the pic:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-thread-6.html
as I will need to have my current gt3 wheels refurbed if i keep them.....what you think?

I pick the parts up on monday so will hopefully start the project next week!

just need to find some head lights now and I will have everything i need....i think???

I think getting OEM fenders is the key. Once you have those, you can get any number of front bumpers that use the old hood and save a little that way and still look excellent. I'd want to know how to modify the 997 fenders to fit the 996. I wonder if you can do that yourself and have someone paint it afterwards. Could make it more affordable. I do know mounting the other stuff is straight forward and getting the parts painted only and then mounting them yourself is very do able. I'll do some checking as well.
Been there, done that years ago. Its easier doing a kit. check my other postings:

That is excellent! Can't wait to read about this as you do it. Take lots of pics please cause I want to do this as well. thanks.

BTW, take a look at this front bumper with the added fog lamps. It's on a turbo and I wonder if that is possible to install instead of the one without.

Mark my words. I have done exactly what you are about to do years ago. I bought one 997 fender and the inner fenders do not work. Then I was going to buy the($$$$) inner fenders and weld that on, so the 997 fender work perfectly. Not worth it!!!!!!! I do welding too, best of luck to ya!!!!!!!!

ok so this is how things stand so far and costings:

I had most parts lined up from a Porsche breakers......hmmmm......they told me the parts were mint........maybe a broken chocolate mint.........the wing had a big gash in it and the GT3 bumper was bent and scuffed.....they said with some heat it could be repaired......I don't think so!

So i have bought mostly new parts: all original Porsche OEM parts

Two new 997 front wings £180 +VAT (15%) each
2nd hand bonnet including hinges and other parts: £200 +VAT
2 new 997 headlights (non zenon) £195 +VAT each
2 new side repeaters £20 +VAT
2 light trays £40 +VAT
plasic strips that cover the bolts on the inner wings and the hood release hinge at the front £30 +VAT
Bumper bracket : £30 +VAT
plastic braket for wings and light plugs for 997 conversion : thrown in by Porsche breakers
Used GT3 bumper......like brand new with all trimings and air ducs, plus fog lights/indicators and head lamp washer : £750 inc VAT

That is all the parts I will need for the front......I spoke to a guy and he said the front end is no problem.......you cut the inner 996 wings and then just tack the 997 wing straight on.......he said it's a piece of cake to do and he has done it!

As for the rear GT3 bumper.......I have been offered one for 829 euros inc tax and shipping to the UK but it will take them 2 weeks to make the bumper.....so I'm looking around for other companies that offer this......so if anyone knows of a company that sells a GT3 rear bumper that fits the 996 with dual exhaust let me know.

Ha ha I could not agree with you more on this point....absolutely not....that would be pathetic to do that as it would not be a GT3!!!
It would be a purely aesthetic modification to an aged front end.

looks like you got quite a steal there..OEM stuff would of course look way better but you'd need a real good welder and here in Houston it's gonna be costly i guess..thats the only setback i have for going OEM 997 stuff for the conversion..

good luck and keep us posted!
