I may be off here but to do a facelift (what you describe) from a 996 to a 997 it involves the following parts.
Search around and you will find some folks that have already done it.
replace the 996 parts with 997 parts for Fenders, headlights and bumper. The 997 is no different underneath than a 996. There are even a few shops that sell kits for this.

After much research it is best not to go for kits offered by companies in Fibre glass and best to just get OEM porsche fenders, hood and bumpers and pay a good body shop to fit them as it can be done!

I have done the research and this body modification over acouple of years ago on my 1999 996 C2 Carrera when the 997 body model was new. The inner fender, that holds on the fender is slightly different. Even the front bumper reinforcement is slight different for the 997 bumper on the 996. And the 997 Hood hinges line up defferently on the 996.
I have the welding skills and the equipment to do this. But just to time and effort and money even before you buy all the lighting like 997 headlights ($$$$). Just to much so I went with a Fiberglass 997 GT3 kit and you could not tell the difference from my 997 front end or a new 997 GT3. I have pictures of it with my Viper on another posting.
Hope my $0.02 helps

Since you asked.
I have the hard top on in the pics. I did a ton of other mods thats almost finished. The car should be just above 350hp now.
I also have the build up pictures somewhere. I've had this whole car apart at one point. I hope those would do for now.
The 996 to 997 kit without lights is from http://www.betterbodiesmotorsport.co...23/996face.htm
I researched all company makers for this kit and most were overseas, Dp-motorsports and Jacquemond. I decided to keep the purschase in America due the $$$ shipping cost from overseas. And the ***-kick factor if someone sent me bad 997 body molds.

not sure if the hood would fit to be honest......I wouldn't have thought so as the body if quite different between the 996 and 997.....at least the front and rear are so its only logical to presume the roof will be......good luck eitherway!
