Air bag light

I've done a lot of searching on the air bag light. Sprayed the connections around the buckle but not under the seats. Called a local independent shop they want $82.00 to turn off the light. I may as well buy the Durametric software and do it myself.

Everything I've read says no. Just for the heck of it I scanned the ECU with my hand held OBII reader and it said no errors.

More than likely, you will have to replace 1 or both of the seat belt receptacles as they go bad from time to time.

Get a code scanner that can read the airbag codes for the 996 (Durametric is a fantastic tool). There are others that can do it as well but confirm that it's your seat belt receptacles. Replace (it's not that hard a job but it requires removal of the seats and fishing the wire through the seat) and reset the light.

Hope this helps,

I posted an air bag light issue here a couple of weeks ago. I'm taking my car to the dealer on Thursday for replacement of the module plus the seat belt recepticles. Total cost including labor is about $400.00. The module is covered under my CPO warranty but the belt buckles are not.

the buckles are around $150 from suncoast and the process seems to be DIY. I was planing on taking care of this but since the light stays off for now - I wont.

Mine just came on too from installing a TechArt wheel. Luckily a buddy of mine resets it for me.

Just installed a steering wheel from Gert from Carnewal and my Air Bag Light is on...not sure if it went on due to required splicing of the existing air bag wire connector to the new air bag connector or just went on for the mere fact of dismantling the unit. Sounds like I have to get this light reset...a little nervous this air bag may go off while I'm driving.
