Smile Remote control issue..

I have a 99 Cab. and lately I noticed that the car does not lock/unlock when I press the remote. I still see the red light on the remote flicker when I press it but It does not do anything. I tried my second remote and it did not do anything either. The remote batteries are fairly new. Normally, you here a clicking sound and a the front lights flicker when you press the remote but I hear nor see anything. Any ideas?

Did the car go into sleep mode? Ie alarm set for over 5 days. If so, you will need to use the key to unlock the car door and then the remote should sart working again.

I did not do anything. Car is unlock, if I need to lock, I just do it manually. How do put it in sleep mode? How do you set alarm?

You need to use the key to unlock and lock the car using the key. That should reset the alarm.

Only other thing I can suggest is put the battery in the fob backwards. People have reported this get the fob working again for some magical reason. If that doesn't work then it is off to the dealer.

this is also a sign of a low battery
use key to unlock car , start car, let run a few minutes, shut off and see if the remote works
my car does this if it sits for a while w/o running

if you replace the battery and manually unlock/start to get out of "sleep mode" (when left sitting for somewhere around 5-7 days -saves battery), your key fobs are toast. this is common. i had one key do this on my 986, now one of my two keys to my 02 c2 (both were at the 6-7 year old mark). not a cpo fix as porsche considers them a wear and tear item. ~350 at the dealer to fix (new fob, labor to program). errrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Does the trunk unlock button work?

If it does, then its not the battery, the contacts on the unlock button are worn / dirty and have stopped working.

This happened to me recently and it took a new fob to fix. An alternative may be to open the fob and clean the contacts on the switch (but usually once these things start to go that type of fix doesn't last long).

I reversed the position of battery, unlocked/locked car manually, and remote does not respond, I don't hear any sound on the car as normally you do...On the manual, it says to lock the car and activate alarm, insert key on the door and turn 3 times which I did, and I noticed that it locked car and activated the alarm. I tried using remote to unlock car but it did'nt work.

My remote does not have a button for opening trunk..
