Brake Sensor Question

My brake sensor just turned on.. I can;t go to the shop just yet and I have an obligation and have to drive 300 miles away.. And back, so 600 miles total.. It will be mostly highway..

Can I do it without risking damage to my rotors? Driving slow and conservatively with minimum braking..

There is usually a little pad left even when the sensor wears through. It could also be a broken wire. How many miles on brakes? I would not go too long, you don't want metal on metal. If you have many miles on the car you will probably be replacing the rotors as part of the brake job. Good Luck!

I got stuck in a similar situation... went a few hundred with the light on. My rotors were fine and still some meat on the pads, but I was very gentle for that few hundred miles.

Brakes:

I just had the same thing at 33k miles and all I needed was Pads. Just last weekend in fact.

I did drive a few hundred miles with no problem.

I think just the pads.. The rotors have never been resurfaced, but considering the way I drive, I might need to replace both..

if you can feel a lip on the edge of the rotor, maybe it's a good time to replace them. Porsche brakes are the easiest to do.

When mine came on I checked it and there is ALOT of brake left in the pad. Obviously not 5,000 miles or anything but its not like it turns on right before your brakes are ready to be scraping bare metal.

While on the topic. I know the pads are super easy to replace but I feel I should get new rotors also. Is there any DIY's out there for rotors or is it pretty standard.

from the look of things when I did my pads last month, once calipers are pulled aside, looks like rotors come right off... maybe a couple screws holding it on, but main force holding it is the lugs.

2 phillips screws. that's all. Suncoast has the rotors real cheap now.
