what oil is best for my carrera 2 ?

I use Mobil 0W40 to keep my door hinges from sqeaking and, primarily Mobil 15W50 for the engine. There are numerous good oils out their that will properly protect your engine. Use an oil or additive, such as a diesel oil, to get at least 0.12% ZDDP content in the oil. These anti-wear agents are as critical to engine protection as the proper viscosity is.

Yes, we all know the talent of Porsche engineers. They make excellent IMS bearings, tight engines that burn no oil, the electronics are beyond compare, top of the line engine seals, cooling system is way too efficient, extremely well designed coolant tanks, engineering feats such as automatically telling you to shift to another gear by popping out of second is worth a Nobel prize, the intermittent airbag light is nice to show that the lamp is working, precise gauges and speedometer give the drivers accurate engine parameters at a glance, the oiling of the windows keeps them from squeaking, superior design of the clutch system, the clutch pedal assist system is trouble free, ETC, ETC, ETC.
There’s not enough storage on this forum to list the HUNDREDS of TSB’s issued. There are even more issued by MB.
I guess with a track record like this, you HAVE to accept that they also know what oil should be used in your engine. (Even though they continuously issue TSB’s changing their minds).

I have an '02 C2, with 75K, it has had Mobile 1 it's entire life, still not a drop of oil in the driveway. However, after lots of reading, I just ordered 10 quarts of Redline 5W40 for a 3K mile oil change.

So that's why Porsche and Mercedes have been struggling with their bad reputations. I'm surprised you would even own this crap. Those German engineers need to learn a thing or two from the Americans if our bail outs can keep them in business long enough

that's what I've been running. After sending off a sample for analysis after 7K mi the results came back telling me I can run it to 9K. This is on a daily driver that sees 2 days of autox each month year around [Test Results]. If you are unsure about the oil you are using, filtration, and your change interval, send off a sample for analysis. It's <$30.
interesting results... I have a 99c2 with a new engine and I do a lot of tracking with it... I use Mobil 1 5W50 (not 15W50) as it flows a little better...
I just sent off a sample to Blackstone with 4 track days on it... so about 12 hours of "hot" driving... I drained the oil to be on the safe side... one thing I noticed when draining the oil... with 4 track days and roughly 4,000 KM it didn't look the same as the oil strait out of the bottle... running it through my fingers it also felt a little "grainy"...
lets see what blackstone says... I'll post results when I get them....
I don't think AUTO-X has the same effect on your oil as do half hour track sessions running flat out... .. but I'm very curious as to the protection of Mobil 1 5W50 for tracking... I also ordered TBN analysis to see how much life it did have left in it if at all.... stay tuned...

I have a '04 C4S CAB (20k miles as of this posting). What do you guys think about ROYAL PURPLE? Anyone use it and have any reviews (good or bad)? I'm thinking of switching to Royal Purple XPR next time I get my oil changed.

After reading various reviews, opinions, rumors, etc., AND the current TSB on approved oils, I decided to use motul-8100-5w40-xcess. No real logic, if I had 10 equal cars I'd do a study, but don't hold your breath!
