Kumho MX vs. Pilot Sports

Kumho MX vs. Pilot Sports
Ok I went to a local Auto X and was searching for opinions on tires... First off I live in Sunny San Diego where it is never less than 72 degrees and rains about 1" a year... B)
Knowing this, multiple reputable 996drivers and three open wheel cart professionals recommend for my car the Kumho MX.
Ok so now you need to know: I have 18" factory chrome rims on a C2 with stock suspension (USA)... My car is for the most part a daily driver, but on the weekends I love to participate in local PCA club rides and few of us let loose so to speak.
So my question to you is:
For almost double the price and the Porsche "N" rating should I still go with the Pilot Sports or am I wasting my money...?

Pilot Sports are great tires, but for a "price point" tire, the MX will hold it's own very well against the Michelin. Dry traction is actually exceptional, wet traction is very good, too. Downsides are some people reporting softer sidewalls on some of the higher profile sizes (not really an issue for the 911 sizing), and they get pretty loud as they wear. The Pilots will wear longer by about 15% and tolerate track temps. better. But all things considering, the MX will get most of the Michelin's performance for 50% of the price. If you do just average driving - try em. For the money you aren't really out anything if you don't like them.

Damon~ How would you compare the MX tires to the PS2's... I currently have the Ps2's and need a rear replacement set...
Just wanted to see your perspective on both tires... I do drive and track the car so performance and wear are things considered...
Thanks,
David

To expound, the MX is a great track tire. Just use it with the assumption that when used on the track it will get very hot and you may get some scalloping on the edges of the shoulder blocks. It's common for them because the blocks are so large. It's also the reason they get a bit noisy.
But unless you are looking for MAX performance on the track (in which case you should be on race tires), I bet you'd get close to the same times on Kumhos as the Michelin. The biggest complaint I get on MX's is that the sidewalls tend to be a bit softer.
On the street is where the difference is. These tires all show their true colors in the last 50% of their life. Over time the PS2 will definitely stay quieter.
Again, for the way these cars eat tires, I think everyone should try a set. They really are very good tires for the price, and if you don't like them you are not out much.
As for the N rating - check with your dealer if the car is still under warranty. Some won't work on wheel issues without N-spec tires on it. If it's out of warranty do what you want.

We don't carry Toyo, and I've never driven them - so can't fairly compare.
I have heard they are pretty good, I'd like to see the numbers.
