Starting Problems???

I have a 99 carrera with about 67k miles. All maintnance and service up to date. Recently ive had trouble starting it. It would act like the battery had no juice to start it or sometimes it doesnt even click, but after a couple tries it cranks over eventually. The gauge reads 12 volts before trying to start it then drops significantly when trying. Once its started it reads the normal 14 volts when driving. Anybody know what it could be and a way to fix it?? maybe a diy??

Have the battery load tested. Any auto store will be able to help you with that. Good luck.

yea, sounds like the battery.

it could also be the starter, but it's probably the battery. the voltage readings would suggest the charging system is working fine.

how old is the battery? they often go at 3-4years. they will go faster if you them them completely discharge by letting the car sit forever or leaving the lights on overnight.
