why are older porsche models more expensive?
I'm still looking around for a good deal on a solid 996 cab. but i've noticed that 993's are hella expensive as compared to the prices of a 996 at the same trim level. why?

The funny thing is if you read old articles about the 996 vs. the 993, the 996 just outperforms it in every way. And it's considered the better car. But the fact that there are so many of them widely available, makes it less desirable. And the fact that it's water-cooled. Luckily two things i really don't care too much about!
I am looking for another P-Car, but it will most likely be a 930.
i didn't know they say 'hella' out in B-more!!!!

The last air-cooled porsche is one big thing. The biggest is that it was the last line of hand-made porsches with limited production output numbers. To tell, look at the price on buying a 993 front fender to a 996 or 997, its just $300 or so bucks. The 993 is over $1000 for that front fender.

I have been following this forum for a while but never posted. Last week i baught an 02 c4s with 30k miles after driving 930's and 993's. I almost bought a 98 c2s with 28k miles from a dealership in Orange county. They were asking $44k and the car was worth it and some. I almost baught it.
That same day 1 hour later i drove the c4s. the 993 c2s was hot and sexy and will hold its value but the c4s simply blows it away on the road. No comparison. My dodge truck could likely take the 993 from stoplight to stoplight. However the the 993 does have great feedback compared to the c4s's AWD. And the 993 feels a little cramped to me on the inside. I think the widebody 996 is hot-personal thing.
If I wanted an investment I'd buy the 993 and park it. But I wanted to drive mine

I doubt it...
On the 3.4 liter versions it most unlikely, since people don't really want a 911 with a boxter front. They're still good cars, I just dont see how they would appreciate.
On the 3.6 liter versions, I could see the widebody versions going up in value again, but not the narrow body ones. Almost all Porsche guys I talk to tell me the like looks of the 996 C4S, Turbo, and GT2, and I happen to agree with it.
Just don't see the any 996 Narrowbody going up in value, even the widebodies it's a long shot since people don't place a high emphasis on the things that make the 996 unique:
- Most prefer round headlights to the 996 ones
- Most identify air-cooled with Porsche, so being the first water cooled engine its not really a plus
- Since there's so many of them, even if alot of people want them, there's too many for there to be a shortage in supply which would drive the price up
Personally I love the widebody 996.
