right/left PSE muffler different??
So my right muffler failed about 500 miles ago. I have a friend at a dealership and got the PSE muffler (for my 03 C4S) for $1200. My left muffler just started rattling VERY bad and apparently is dead now too The same dealer looked up the price and quoted me $3600 for the left side. This cant be right can it?

this is bull**** if its not an error by porsche? they are going to mark up a part three times what they sold it for weeks ago? how can a company expect to keep customers with business practices like this? i really hope this isn't true. my parts guy said he thinks its some sort of error.

Im gona have to disagree. I have had numerous problems with the system. First, some hose or something blew off that kept it in loud mode so I had to have that reinforced. Now the baffles themselves are both breaking or something.

Ok.....my reg stock mufflers are built like a tank.
But isn't the PSE mechanism is just a vacuum solinoid and a flap diverter?
Never heard of stock baffles breaking.
Good luck finding a replacement at a decent price.

The muffler can itself is basically the same for stock and PSE, the Pse difference is the flap, by-pass pipe and actuator. I have heard lots of owners say that the internal baffles have started to rattle, so it does not surprise me to hear about this on a set of PSE's. However, the price quote from Porsche is out of this world. It reminds me of waht has happened with the 3.4 engines. 3+ years ago you could get a reman one for about $8,000. Last year it was up to $11,000+ (these are Sunset/Suncoast prices, and last year the 3.6 was only $8,500 and the 3.6 X51 was only $9,400). The lastest prices I hae heard are in the neighbor hood of $14,000 to $16,000 for a 3.4 reman. So about double in price in a couple of years. Nice the way Porsche is "taking care" of its old customers.
