I'd go with a 2002+ car so you get the additional 20HP and updated headlights. Otherwise it'll look a lot like your old Boxster from the front!

I personally like the difference and prefer the AWD handling. It's very stable, some say too stable and the AWD and PSM make the car almost impossible to spin. That being said, it can not powerslide out of corners, because the AWD senses the sliding as a loss of traction and applies brake and throttle automatically to certain wheels individually to counter the wheelspin. So if wanna slide around, the C4 isn't the car for you.
I hate to disagree, but I don't agree with any of this. I drove my C4 for 35K miles and spun it a couple of times. If I wasn't so aware of its handling limits, it would have been easy to spin it more times. As for power sliding, I found that it takes higher speeds to do this than in a C2, but the C4 allows you to do it without a problem. I loved getting white-knuckled passengers when I'd do 100 MPH power slides.

Besides all of this, PSM is standard on the C4. By turning it off, I found the car handled very much like the C2, though the steering was a bit heavier. But in the rain and snow, the combination of PSM and AWD was simply amazing. I can't talk enough about what I could do in that car!
