04 C2 - What Ultra High Performance All-Season should I get?

Need help!

I currently have Michelin's PS2 Summer tires, but need to change them to All Season tires because I moved to the east coast from the west!

Here are my tire sizes:
Front: 225/40ZR18
Rear: 285/30ZR18

What would you recommend??

Tirerack has two tires for sale that fits my car:

1. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus

OR

2. Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season

Michelin has a higher review, but I would like a second opinion.

Also, I heard that there are sponsors that could help me get a good deal? I guess I'm looking at about $1K right now.

Thanks!

You can't go wrong with either of those tires. The Michelins are certainly a little bit better.

Check the "Tire Rack" ratings on tires. I personally buy nothing but Michelins, but I know there other tires out there, but I know Michelins are considered the best tires. I have heard from several sources who had bought new cars witht the Eagle F-1s on them that they are quite noisy.

Be aware that both those tires along will all other AS tires will be a substantial step down in handling performance in dry weather. Make sure you are willing to compromise. Unless you plan on drivng in snow, your summer tread will be just fine.

All season and UHP only go together in the marketing material from the tire co's. Your best bet, if you will drive the 996 in the winter, is to get a real set of snow tires.

Second the above response. A real set of winter tires will do you good when the temperature dips or snow\ice. You'll get the best of both worlds with two sets - great handling in the summer as well as the grip in the winter!

I moved from the East Coast to the West Coast too (albeit in Canada), but I run two separate set of tires & wheels.

The performance of tires based on cold temperatures is far more exagerated than people think. Test your tire temperatures after driving for 15 minutes in sub zero temperatures and you'll see that they are far above the requirement for summer rubber.

Call Damon at Tirerack he will hook you up with the new Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 N-rated snow tires, they are very capable in the dry as well as city slush and ice. You may have to go a little thinner on the rear, like a 265/35R18.

Angry This really sucks...

Wow!

Thanks for all of the comments!

For some reason, I didn't get an email that I had responses to this thread.

I really regretting it now...

I ended up just going to a local store who match the price from Tirerack for the all season Michelins. They tore two of my PS2 and (i believe, though they said that the issue was already there) now have peeling on one of my chrome rims. FML
