Anyone else interested in turbo kit for 996
Back in July a little birdie told me of TPC's 996 turbo kit under development.
I have been looking into a sc kit for my 996 but got to many negative reponses. I called TPC and spoke to their engineer and he confirmed. The kit he said should be out shortly. He said "were just writing 2 more lines of the programing" "Its almost the same as the cayman kit, same motor just different plumbing and brackets" Recently I called TPC to check on the status and the 996 kit and it has been put on hold. They have had more demand for the 997 kit and have been working on the 997 kit.
I believe the 996 turbo kit would be a great addition to any one looking to get more out of a 996. It can yield up to 100 additional hp. It is much more safer, cheaper, and reliable than a sc kit.
Im trying to see how many 996 owners feel the same way as i do and are interested in the tpc turbo kit. If we show enough interest then i think we can get tpc to develop the 996 turbo kit sooner than later.

I stopped by the indie last week and he had a 94 993 with a NA motor and an aftermarket turbo kit. This car had the widest body kit I have ever seen. Any way, the programming was off and he melted a couple of pistons. $10 k to rebuild motor. Be wary of trying to get such high gains on stock internals. I am not sure if any work was done, or not done on the fuel delivery system that could have contributed to the meltdown.

I think it all depends on who developed the kit and how aggressive you want to be. I've been running the Evo SC for a number of years now and probably have 20K miles on the kit. I've also got a bunch of track days on there too. It's a pretty conservative kit overall as it only makes that max hp for a brief second at the top of the rev range. The rest of it just builds gradually over the stock curve making for a healthy performance improvement.
Done right, I wouldn't worry about FI on these motors. I did not do the boost upgrade on my car because it's stupid fast as it is and its still running (knock on wood) However, there are plenty of people running an extra few psi with no problems.
TPC has come a long way lately with using larger injectors instead of extra injectors and ECU programming instead of a piggy back. They've really stepped up their game. If they make it, I'm sure it will perform safely. They don't want to have a rash of blown motors like what happened with the supercharged boxsters from a number of years ago.
If they make one I say go for it!

we have to finish the 997 system first.
We currently have 2 997s in house getting the conversion... Keep an eye on that thread and follow the updates!
It is coming... and easy install w/no engine removal.
I cant believe we got a compliment from Deputy dog!!!

Feel free to look that over as well... videos, and reviews...
For what it is worth, the cayman turbo kit just won EVO Magazines "Modified Car of the year"
It was just featured in EVO, 911 and Porsche world and is about to be featured in Eurotuner, Autoblog, TTAC, and Excellence...

I think that target price of under $10k, needs to be modified a bit. For me, it would have to be about 20% less than the market price spread of my 996 and a 996tt. As that is a moving mark and seems to be shrinking, it may be tough to hit....
