RMS + Shaft seals + Clutch labor Cost in IL?
Mine is C4: an all wheel drive.
Can this be done for $800-1000? I keep getting quoted ~$1500 around Chicago IL. Anyone has recommendations?
After reading this it seems like I can print out the DIY and hand it to Midas mechanic:

Try Golz Motors in Deerfield. In January of 07 I had my clutch and RMS replaced there. The labor was broken down as follows; R&R tans & Flywheel, replace RMS $686.10, Replace clutch & Update guide tube $99, drain and service trans $74.25, install updated bearings $198.

Hi Dharn55, thanks very much: just called them, their quote seems very fair.
What do you mean by "updated bearings $198", did they do your RMS retrofit? Btw I've mentioned the RMS retrofit from LNE to a couple of P technicians and both say they've never seen 2002 engine fail because of the bearing failure.. said more likely on Boxters or older models, but willing to perform the install if needed.

I think the updated bearings had to do with the update to the clutch lever and its bearings. By model year 2002 the lever and bearings had been updated (mine is a 2000, actualy built in late 1999, so it had the olderr design). As for the IMS bearing update, it defintely effects 2002's, actually effects all M96 engines, although the final update, done in 2006 or 2007 I believe, was more effective in addressing IMS bearing issues. Still the LN bearing is a big upgrade to anything that Porsche offered, until 2009 that is when the IMS was eliminated.
I would recommend that you read this info from LN

When I had my engine partially apart the upgrade/tool for the dual row bearing was still in the works so I did not do it. I did inspect the bearing and remove the seal. May do the bearing upgrade in the future is I can work out some other issues I have with my engine.
My prices were for labor only, did not include the parts. Jeff Golz is a grat guy, tell him I sent you his way. Good Luck!
