Arrow About to do my RMS replacement + clutch; flywheel?

I am about to schedule my RMS and ISS replaced and going to do the clutch at the same time (50+K miles on the car). In the hands of the tech once they open it up. Going to ask them to check the bearing for play, but not planning on LNE retrofit at this time.

Tech tells me if I need the flywheel replaced it's an additional 1K for the part only and I am not going to do this if that's the case. If that's the case is it advisable to only have the clutch replaced and leave the old flywheel in or wait to do both parts?

My transmission feels fine and I put on about 2000 miles on the car annually

Through Porsche a flywheel is close to $1,000. You can get them for between $500 and $750 if you look around. If you need a new one there is not much choice but to replace it. But you might not need one.

The significant cost with an RMS replacement is the labor to drop the trans. The cost of the RMS is less than $20. If the trans is out and the car has some miles on it, it usually make sense to replace the clutch at the same time. And Vice Versa, most say that if you are replacing the clutch, check and replace the RMS while the trans is out. The RMS does require taking off the flywheel, so a little extra time and the cost of the flywheel bolts, which have to be replaced each time.

As for the dual mass flywheel, it needs to be replaced if it is scarred or has other problems. I was lucky when I had to do my clutch and flywheel, I had found one on ebay for $100, OEM and new in the box, a few years before the work, and bought it on a whim. Then I needed it and saved about $900. I think the price on a new one is about $975, but you can find them on Ebay and the internet for alot less.

Did you have a part number, or trust the seller's description that the flywheel was the right part?

So are you going to use the OEM bearing if you find play? I have read that the bearing is a standard one and that a bearing outlet should have them. Anyone confirm?

I will be checking my IMS in the next few weeks as I have 100k and prefer to be proactive.

Can the DualMass Flywheel be resurfaced? I would think that only if the spring system was broken, would they need to be replaced. Assumptions wrong?

Had another tech look at the car today - says some oil leak trace but doesn't think it's RMS leak . I might do oil change to switch from 0-40 to a higher viscosity, I read this helps with minor leaks.

In any case, I will want to do my clutch at some point in the future and reseal the main and shaft seals when they take the transmission out. Does 60K service calls for a new clutch?

If they found play I would go with the LNE bearing, seems like a lot of people are happy with it.
