question on wing warning light

We have this wing warning light on the dash that lights up when we start the car and disappears when we start running.

What happens to this when we switch out our motorized wing with a fixed wing? Does it continue to light up even when the car gets moving? Or it is simply disabled never to light up again until the motorized wing is re-installed?

I understand that there's a plug you can obtain to go to the factory wiring harness that disables the light. Factory aerokit C2s, as well as all GT3s and GT2s have a similar plug.

I've heard the same on the wiring kit. Otherwise, you still get the light when you start up and you get it and it stays on when you hit 75MPH.

I'll second that I heard the same thing. I think I saw a thread from one of the members in the northeast that gave the part number..#996-612-070-51. I haven't confirmed it yet but I will have to do the same thing when I go to a fix wing.

I did this on my 1999 996 when I went to a fixed wing. The wiring harness is plug and play and removes the warning light. Bring the part number with you to the parts department though since my local dealer had no idea the wiring harness even existed. LOL

There is a wiring harness change that you can purchase from Porsche (I think $125ish) which is made for the fixed wing and will stop the light from coming and or staying on. Just replaces the exisiting wire harness to the rear wing... You can order it from Sunset... http://sunsetimports.com/team.php?tid=1

When moving to a fixed wing, does the whole decklid get replaced? and from what I assume they 75mph function is disabled?

I had posted this on another thread I think Porsche offers 2 different harness called the GT3 Wing bypass harness. The first w/o brake light is part #996 612 070 51 About $60. The second one is part# 996 612 070 04 with a brake light connection over $100 for this one. Give then a call

Thanks for the part # info. This is great! Question though regarding the one with brake connection and without brake connection. The Carrera wing that will be removed has a 3rd brake light so, logically, I get the one with brake light connection, right? However, does this in any way disable the other 3rd brake light on the cab top cover above the wing (as some aftermarket wings have their own 3rd brake light)? Or is it better to get the one without brake connection so no 3rd brake lights will be disabled? Of course, if you get a wing with a 3rd brake light, you would like the 3rd brake light on the cab cover to be disabled as well (without cutting any wires so easy to put back in OEM form) and be able to use the one on the wing. How does this really work?

ok, trying to answer my own question, my assumption is:

if the aftermarket wing has a 3rd brake light, get the one with brake light connection.

if the aftermarket wing has no 3rd brake light, get the one without brake light connection.

correct?

how do you guys with wings on cabs disable the other 3rd brake light on top cover?

Gentlemen,

I am dealing with this same situation myself.

Thank you everyone that has participated with their input. I could not have gotten this far without your help but here is where it stands....

Subject: RE: RennTech Part Request Form: Anthony Hansen

On quote 67802. The harness that fits 02-04 non c4s aero kit II cars is 99661207051 for 88.92 dollars and a week away. The one used on the Porsche aerokit for the c4s is 99661207055 for 216.79 but a month away from Germany. I'd have to tell you to use the c4s one for your model car. Although I have to wonder what's the difference. Check with some forums, maybe others have tried to use the non c4s harness on their car and it works with mods?

Has anyone tried the other harness? and second response...

Anthony,

The part number #99661207055 that you provided for the wire harness is $294.12 but only available from our wherehouse in Germany. In order for you to see it in a reasonable amount of time you can pay an additional $36 and see it in about 5 business days.

It looks like I will end up somewhere in the middle here.

Again guys thanks for all of your help,

Ponyboy

If you are adding an aftermarket wing without a brakelight you need to use part #996 612 070 51. I had posted a price above but just checked what I paid and my dealer her in NJ charged me $168 for this harness. I guess shop around for the price cause I feel they over charged me for the harness.

This is a picture of the wing on my car with no brake light on the wing.

Thanks for the info. Now, it is just a matter of picking which wing of which may or may not have the brake lights.
