997 shifter upgrade on a 996
For those with 996's the 997 shifter seems to be a good upgrade, I am very happy with it. There are a couple on ebay now for some decent prices. Sorry I do not know how to link but both are under a hundred. Not the **** and boot but the shift unit.

Is changing out a 996 shifter with a 997 shifter and easy plug and play application or are any other parts required and or recommended? Sorry if this has been stated before but I don't want to buy a 997 shifter and find out I need to purchase additional equipment, thanks.

What's the main difference you noticed b/w the 997 Shifter and the PST?

Hmmm, The shifts for about half the gears are really short. Like to reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. not really much shorter that I notice 4,5,6. It makes a cool clicking sound when going into 1st or 3rd. But no where near as cool as a gated shifter. I like it, but not as much as my RG5's ;-)

Thanks Scott. So are you saying the shifts for half the gears are really short for the 997 one or the PST? Thanks.

The Porsche Short throw shifter is also B&M. B&M makes the PST. I was just saying how the first half is really short, but this is just my opinion. They just don't feel all even in travel. I like it more then stock.
I feel its more synchronized with my heel toe technique and I shift just a tad faster, less of a rubbery feel, I like the sound, etc.
