Need Advice

Hi,

I just joined. I'm looking at a 996 Cabrio. Been reading ads for 2000-2003. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks,
Saint O

Actually the '02 is when the power upgrade happened. 30k should get you a nice 2002.

If you comb the threads you will probably find many differrent answers to that question but a common theme seems to be that the RMS (rear main seal) leak problem is not as prevalent in the 2000 and up. That being said, any used car you buy may blow up the day after you buy it. Some people will also tell you to avoid "garage bombs", which are older cars with unusually low miles on them because they think they are more prone to blowing up without warning. There are threads on this as well.

As what was told to me go with the newest model you can afford. There is nothing wrong with 01 and lower models, but most usually want the 3.6 upgrade in the 02-04.

Cheap, young, low mileage. You only get to choose 2. Looks like the VIPC4 is cheap, sort of young, sort of low mileage. That equals 2, right?

Mine was cheap, and low mileage. But it's a 2001.

I payed $27K at the Porsche dealer in Minneapolis.
Options are;
18" Sport wheels
Heated Front seats
Pwr Comfort Seats w/driver memory
Lapis Blue Metallic
Wheel Caps with colored crests
Porsche Crest in Headrests
Tecnic Pkg that includes
Headlight Washers
Hi-Fi Sound w/10 speakers and amp
Litronic headlights
Radio #220 w/CD
On Board Computer
Dual cup holder

With only 32K miles, the condition is great. Hard to believe its 9 years old.

I'm a happy man!!!!
