Same breaks in some cases, same options in some cases and same engines in some cases. I have a 3.4 in mine. So I guess my car may have had a sex change? Is a 996/7 a chick car if you did not buy a gt3, gt3 rs, gt2? Now that is a good question....
There are just some cars that look better for guys and some for gals. No doubt the Boxster is an excellent performer given the engine is mid-mounted and it is more compact and these are some of the reasons why I actually considered a Boxster. However, a chick definitely looks sexier driving a Boxster than a 911 and vice versa for men. Honestly, I've given the Boxster a long thought before deciding on the 996. Two factors that contributed to my decision going to the 996 is because: 1) I have 2 kids who loves topless driving (and I have to bring them both to avoid them from fighting over who gets to ride with me......now they're fighting over who gets to ride in front); and 2) men does look better driving a 911.

And, no, a 996/997 still ain't a chick car if compared against GT2s, GT3s and the like. A 911 and any 911 will always be a ride more suitable to guys.

Haha, I guess we have one similar reason why we went with a 911.....because of our kids. But if I didn't have 2 kids, I'd just put the windblocker back on rather than trading it for a Boxster.

I bought a boxster for my wife for and I just couldn't drive it I felt like I was driving a girls car. So 3 weeks later I sold it and bought a 996 cab but I got to tell you (and sorry to the previous poster) but I felt like the 996 Cab was a chick car, sooo I bought a coupe and loved that and now a TT and love that even more. I will say though I have since joined the PCA and have met alot of guys who drive and track Boxsters and have a new found appreciation for them and sorry to all the 996 owners but an new Boxster S might just beat ya. Recently I have even been considering selling the TT and getting a Cayman S. One last thought it shouldn't be about weather or not a Boxster is a chick car or not. It's about owning a Porsche and owning any Porsche is better than owning anything else.

If opinion is based on the media (or what others think) it's a "chick car" .http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles_make-P...l-Boxster.html

The bigger question is why reject a car that you are considering based on what how someone else might see it ? Why buy into a perception that is marketed through Hollywood and negatively reinfored by a movie and popcorn crowd stupid enough to accept it as though it were fact?

Buy the car if you love it !!!

Seems like any softtop is a chick car to you. But, yeah, I am considering a 987 Boxster S with tip for my wife. But wait, you sold your wife's Boxster to get yourself a 996? She didn't like it?

I don't think any Porsche is a chick car anymore. To me now it's all about owning one and being a part of something bigger. As for the Boxster my wife love it, I sold the boxster to get the 911 for myself. Before you judge me I did go out and buy her a Cooper (which she loves even more, in fact she's on her second one). My wife actually bought me the TT.

^I bought my wife an '07 Shelby GT, which she sold to help me buy the '08C2S. You do things for each other, that's all.

Cool! You guys are lucky your wives are pretty much into cars too and actually buys one for you. I let my wife buy her expensive bags so I can justify buying my cars.

Haha. Not only bags, but jewelry and clothes as well. She shops to her heart's delight, therefore, she doesn't bother me with the car purchases and mod expenses.

Well it appears as though the no's have it.I disagree but I don't really know why I look at them as a chick car. They perform well, they look good and in the S version look meaty.Maybe it's because they look a bit like a Miata. Thanks everyone for posting.
