To supercharge or not to supercharge...that is the question..

Oh man, this could turn into a flame war and I don't want any part of that. However, for all of you SC naysayers, If you can SHOW me a negative effect of a normal to moderately boosted SC, you win the prize. Like I said, I have not heard of ANY issues related to a EVO SC on a 996. For a moderate amount of boost, I contend there will be little or no adverse effect on the engine. Just lots more fun.
For those of you advocating she wait for Turbo, read her posts. There is no way she can justifty switching out now. She needs to hold onto that car and get the most out of it. A SC will extend her enjoyment for a LONG time. Switching to a Turbo would cost her way more than a SC for no noticable improvement.
Just my cents.
For what it's worth, I plan on Supercharging my brand new 04 C4S within the next three months or as soon as my schedule permits.

Naw, I made up my mind before I bought the car. I think the C4S is a fantastic upgrade platform and know that I will be getting a great upgrade to an already fantastic car.
When I was flying combat jets for a living we used an expression which I still hold dear, "Speed is Life"
I do promise to provide a complete pictorial of my upgrade when it happens.

some times when a car reaches its perfect blend of power and balance, it should be left alone. take the gt3 for example. do we hear people wanting to S/C their gt3? no. there's a reason for it.

HAHAHA Kiby is a victim
Robyn: don't worry 10k isn't that much, you should kick Kiby Kiby's ***, I really want to see it. 10k for a 996? no worry, I should be able to upgrade for a Cayenne Turbo with the amount I spent for mods (25k) LOL!

<<<<Save the money in a high interest "New Car" fund, there are some nice cars on the horizon.>>>>
There are NO HIGH interest accounts.
The average driver wants more power; great drivers want more performance...and smart drivers get both.

well how about this...
....supercharging the 996 using less boost to get more life? i guess the evo sc puts out 6 psi, how about lowering it to 3~4 psi so you can get it to gt3+ power specs and get a possibly/theoretically more reliable car? i would consider it. 400 HP vs. 470+ HP yes big difference but it may get you some longevity.
i'm considering sc'ing my coupe too. i planned on modding the car before i bought it so i found a moderately-low priced '99 so i can have some fun and not worry about blowing up a new car.
about CARB, if you are due anytime soon then the logical move would be to wait, then do the mod after smog so you have at least 2 years before you have to do it again. hopefully EVO will finally get it to pass CARB. however, how long has the boxster intake been up for CARB approval? that day may never come
