swapping ashtray to ashtray delete
My ashtray is all scratched up and was going to replace. I dont smoke so was thinking about the ashtray delete. Is the swap out as easy as it seems?
2 torx screws and your done?
Also, anyone have pics of a gray center console with carbon ashtray or ashtray delete? Cant decide if the contrast would look good or stupid?

Ah no....that was what I thought as well..... when you pull the ashtray out the switches come with it.... you need to unplug the switching harnesses... pull straight out... wiggling a little helps... and then you have to release the actual buttons and the blanks to the rear by sliding a butter knife or some such tool down the side to release the tabs..
I bought the replacement part directly from Porsche... I think it was $50+/- (with PCA discount). The little rubber tray liner is another $12 if you want it....
My interior is black so the new piece matched perfectly... if you want a photo I can take and post one later today....

This is a great mod. When I finally did it, I wondered why I hadn't done it sooner. Nothing really fits in the ash tray (except, maybe ashes) but you can put your wallet, Blackberry, or cell phone in the non-smoker cubby. The non-smoker storage cubby is matte black, so it matches any interior. If you like aluminum look, you can have BumperPlugs.com paint it for you, or sell you one that is already painted.

I have a CF ashtray. Contrast looks good w/ the grey interior.
Crappy pic.....but you can kinda get the idea of how it looks.

Some of my early part ordering follies, was ordering off an exploded parts diagram. I ordered the bottom insert of the ashtray delete with the astray button cradle...... so at a cross roads I ordered the replacement ashtray. If I get bored I can always order the delete.

I like my ash tray, i dont smoke but it works well for my quarters, for parking meters. I can fit about 5 bucks in it! I thought about doing the ash tray delete but i thought that dirt and dust would get in there and it annoy me. Just my two cents

Suncoast Porsche sells the ashtray delete part (with mat), in black, for about $49...here's a link to the part: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...Code=POTE996IN
If you want it to match your existing interior color, order the part from bumperplugs.com by phone, they'll provide it in any factory color you want for an upcharge (they'll give you a quote for that over the phone).
Personally, I think the black in a gray (seal gray?) interior would look fine...there's probably a lot of black in your interior already.

Bought the ashtray delete...since it only comes in black these days and my interior is blue, I painted the inside the closest blue i could find, then painted the opening silver to match the interior accents...

I just did mine last weekend. Easy, easy, easy. Same thing on the color. Did not want boring black so I painted it to match the aluma-look trim. I think it looks so much cleaner. BTW, I spoke with Eric at Bumperplugs and he does not sell just the painted ashtray delete any more. He only includes it with the full center console.
