Broken Passenger Window Help! 996 Porsche

Hi All,

Over the weekend I broke my passenger window in my 2002 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet (996).

The dealer labor cost for repairing this is $400-$500 in my area + glass cost. How difficult is it to replace the glass myself?

I am particularly nervous about alarm sensitivity and the function that automatically raises/lowers the window an inch when the door handle is pulled.

Does anyone know the process for replacing the glass, and if so can you post some easy to follow instructions? Or alternatively please tell me if this is a delicate procedure best left to professionals.

Thanks in advance.

I've never done it before but I think it's somewhat easy..assuming you know how to remove the door panel, speaker box, & padding...loosen 2 T30 bolt on each clamp at the bottom & slide in new window. You may need to raise the window up a a little inorder to have clearance to the bolt....before you tighten it down, you'll have to adjust the window left or right a liitle bit so when it rolls up, it won't rub against the side window..You might have to adjust it a couple of times to get it right..
here's a link for more info...
it's for a boxster but I think it should be the same as the 996.

You could also check with Speed Auto Glass or another place like that to see what they would charge - I'll bet if would be far less than the dealer.

I have done it on other cars. Scary? Yes! Easy? I put it at a 5 on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being super easy and a 10 take it to the dealer.

Honestly its not that difficult. You just have to have the proper tools. If you need the glass let me know we have a few of them here instock. They are all used but in really good condition none the less.
