Long drives??

Newb here.....Anybody using their cars for long trips/touring? Wife and I currently do 2-3 motorcycle rides a year averaging 5-800 miles a day and are looking to do this in a 996 4C. Trips usually end up @ 5k miles, will I need to change oil or just leave fresh and change it after? How about comfort, fuel range? We are used to traveling light Any suggestions/input is appreciated, Thanks!

We have taken our 99 C2 on long trips often. Vegas to Napa, Vegas to Colorado and are about to drive to Parade in St. Charles, IL. We have race seats and a roll bar. The car fits lots of luggage and has been surprisingly confortable to drive on long stints. I get about 23 MPG going about 80-85. I'll let you know after 3 days in the car this year.

I'll be driving from Salt Lake City to Ottawa Canada in my 03 C2 cab starting next Wednesday - so I'm *hoping* it's comfortable. Just had an oil change and general check-out less than 100 miles ago.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I've done 2 long ones - Chicago to Colorado and Chi to NC. I think if you do an oil change just before leaving, you will be fine for the duration. I got 23+ MPG and was driving pretty hard on both - including mountains. I have sport seats and was still quite comfy for 3+ hour stints. You will be surprised how much stuff you can cram into a 911 with both the trunk and rear seat area. It is a great long distance car!

I did a trip from Tampa to Key West and back. One stop on the way down in Islamorada, and straight through on the drive home. Gas mileage was good even with the slow bridges heading down through the keys (23 -25mpg).

I have an '02 C4S with the factory sport seats. I was perfectly comfortable. Luggage fit well on the rear parcel shelf. No big complaints. The only small issue was that the wife likes to nap on these long trips, she could not put the seat back very far with the suitcase behind her, so it was a bit difficult getting comfortable enough to fall asleep with the seat semi-reclined.

I drove my '02 C4 cabriolet from Santa Monica to Detroit in the summer of '08. My friend came with and we are both tall. (6' 3" and he's 6' 5") I had the car cover in the trunk and our "luggage" behind the seats. A giant CD case, snacks, drinks, etc... and we were completely comfortable the entire trip. I think I was getting 25-26.6 MPG the whole way even with A/C cranked in desert.

When I bought my Turbo I drove it nonstop from Tampa to Denver in 26 hours. Averaged 93 mph including all the stops for food/gas/bathroom. What a fun trip!

First day I purchased car: San Fran to Summit County Colorado to climb four 14ers. Then to Omaha.

Just finished a 1K trip to the Wisconsin Dells with roof rack Thule cargo and bicycle on board. Camped overnight at Coralville Lake.

Going back to climb a couple of 14ers this summer. Plan on another 1K.

Change oil every 5-7.5K.

PS: Sport seats that are way comfortable.

Just bought my car on Friday. Drove about 275 miles home after picking it up. I found the car pretty comfortable but I can't rave about it's comfort as much as others have in this thread. As for now, I think I would rather take our Denali for long distance travels.

Salt Lake City to Ottawa Canada in 4 days. Mechanically no issues. Seats were more than comfortable enough for 7+ hours of driving daily.

Enjoy!

Lots of long trips in my 99 C4. You can really shave some time on long trips.
It is surprising how much stuff you can fit. ...soft luggage recomended.
