Wow, if Das Shield is just a dime thick then definitely go with the other stuff and use whatever thickness you want as all of that stuff will offer more protection.

I kind of like that the DasShield "snaps" into place rather than has to be glued in place but damn $200.00

Way down my list of mods.

They do show they have the 'schild' for the Cayman, 997, boxstrer and even the 911 from 1974 to 1998..............what's up with the 996?

Why would they have 'material' for the 'Schild' for all the other Porsche's and not for the 996???

Anyone out there got one of these 'Schilds'? Is this something I really need for my 996?

Thanks for any thoughts on this matter.
same with me, i forgot who i called but they said they were on back order, i checked several more websites & they were all out of stock, not sure when they would be coming in, but yea they had them for all of the other models, it doesn't make sense, since they are all made of the same material.

I would imagine that if u just let it fall that would be a problem...

I would say to save your money.
i'm not gettin one because i'm scared of gettin dents, its more for the custom look, like if you want to enter any car shows or just look better, it just looks more customized, they're only $160 & with some you can get free shipping. its just another mod that you don't need but get to make it look better

Okay, for anyone interested, I have ordered a 60X60X1/4 inch "Volara Closed Cell Foam" sheet from the folks at The Foam Factory (thanks 'my996' for the site); the sheet and shipping is only $30.90 and my labor....well that will be for the love of my Porsche.
I'm going to make my own 'Schild'. I'll make a 'how-to' with pictures in case anyone would like to see how it turns out.
Wish me luck,

Good luck and keep your camera charged up - looking forward to see your process and result.

Purely as a suggestion, I'd think that using cardboard as a template might help in cutting the foam more precisely. ???

Thanks for the cardboard tip....I thought I'd go to the UPS store and get a couple of thin sheets of styrofoam and use some blue stuff, I use for marking a line on a long sheets of plywood. I'll pat the power on the underside of the hood and then place the styrofoam sheet up againt it and I hope to have my pattern?????????? If this doesn't work I will just take the hood off and use it to cut the pattern.
This should be kind of easy compaired to some of the DIY I've done.
Thanks again,

its alot thicker than a dime & it only ways a couple of pounds & it is already custom fitted for your hood, no need to do any cutting & it has clips that you use to fasten it secure, & is made out of a very durable material, & no i don't have anything to do with the company, i'm on back order to get one too.
