99 996 solid rotors?
I'm looking for solid rotors for my 99 996 for the track. Any suggestions or ideas. I'm running 1/2 spacers in the front since I have a GT3-R wide body kit.
Thanks!!

The only rotors that I am aware of that are plug and play for the 996 C2 are PFC dimpled. There have been many threads over the years on this, but the only 318X28 rotors out there are PFCs. Stock front rotors weight 19.5 lbs. IIRC, since PFC are 2-piece, the weigh about the same (or even a little less). As a point of reference, my new "solid" rotors on my GT3 weight 26.5 lbs, which is ~1-2 lbs more than stock. No where near twice as heavy. And, if I got 2-piece with aluminum hats, it would actually be LESS than stock. Besides, I doubt anyone but the top echelon drivers would be able to notice 2 extra pounds of unsprung weight per corner.
Also, for heavy track applications, solid/dimpled don't run hotter, quite the contrary. With the extra mass and veining, they dissipate heat faster and run cooler than cross drilled. An added benefit is that they also last much longer. Like 2X-3X longer. For PFC, cost is about $400 per corner for front hats and rotors. Replacement rotors are cheaper since you don't need hats.
Part number for bolt on C2 replacement is PFC 318.067.87/88. I had these on my old C2 and they were great.
Lastly, don't think you won't see cracking with a solid rotor. All rotors crack - solid, dimpled, slotted, cross drilled, whatever. They all crack.

What was I thinking. I just did a break job on one of our trucks and it had internally vented front rotors that are over 1" thick. I thought wow, if those rotors were solid they would weigh a ton. It has been over three years since I did my 996 and I was forgetting that these were much thinner rotors that were cross-drilled, not internally vented. My Bad.

If you really want to go down this route I can highly recommend the Girodisc slotted. Bigger and lighter than stock or Performance Friction (PF are actually heavier than stock) with no increase in caliper size.

I have the Perf Friction and think they are really good paired with some Pagid Orange. I did heavy track use last year and they held up great. With the alum hats, they are slightly lighter than OE.

Really, I asked PF dealer for spec and they confirmed heavier than stock???
