Yup, that S54 is fast......and rare. Value is going up and that particular MZ3 is now regarded a collector car. 330hp stock with similar weight to an early 996 C2. I have a similar car but it is a non-M model with the M54 engine. Just 225hp stock, but with some mods, estimated 235hp which is close to equal to the S52 engine in earlier MZ3 Coupes.

I used to have a Euro spec MZ3 Coupe with the S50B32 engine (321hp) and until this day, I firmly believe it was quicker than my Euro spec 996 C2. If it wasn't (doubt it), sure felt it. I sorely miss my M Coupe. The 996 was a lot more practical and comfortable, but the M Coupe was a lot more fun!

Years back, it was voted the UGLIEST car in America by, i belive, Car and Driver. I think the Pontiak Astec took it's place.
Now-a-days, there are sooooo many ugly cars, it would be too hard to place one of them at the top of the heap!

One consolation though, the BMW did take the honors for the #1 ugliest car in North America. If I had to guess today, I think the new BMW SUV/Crossover would be, hands down, the Ugliest car on the plant (IMHO).....What are those boys thinking?? I think the new Acura TL would be a close 2nd....

It has always been a "love it or hate it" kind of a car. One drive and I am sure your opinions will change (assuming they were negative to begin with). I for one actually liked the looks, especially the rear flares (reminds me of a 930).

The flares look nice, but on a Roadster. The coupe still looks like a mini wagon.

It also made C&D's 10-Best List for 1999 and the recent Best Cars for $20k feature.

I'm obviously on the "love it" side as well. I get a LOT of compliments with my Z3 Coupe.
