Oil filter mod

There is a mod that changes the oil filter housing with a different kind that is easier to change and uses a more generic oil filter. Can't remember what its called. Anyone have a clue what I am talking about?

LN Engineering offers our spin-on oil filter adapter, which converts your engine to full flow filtration and also allows for use of superior oil filters capable of filtering better than the original equipment filter for reduced wear and longer engine life. Proudly made in the USA. Patent Pending.

Filter adapter has machined in hex, allowing easy installation using a 26mm socket and ratchet (not included).

Fits 986/987 as well as 996/997 models and replaces Porsche part numbers 996 107 020 53 (54, 55). Does not fit GT2, GT3, or Turbo. models

Uses Napa Gold 1042, Mobil 1 M1107, or K&N Gold HP-1007 filter. These are the only recommended oil filters.

LN engineering and flat6 websites give loads of info on the benefit of this mod over the standard filter set-up, including less messy filter changes and doing away with the pressure relief bypass valve

Thanks - that's what I was looking for. Incidentally, in response to Angldkns9, a friend of mine described the significant filtration properties of a Mobil 1 oil filter for synthetic oil compared to paper filter (ie Porsche oil filter). Basically, the smaller micron size holes in the former pick up a lot more tiny particles in the oil than the latter which allows the particles to freely pass through. That convinced me and so I'm going to do this Mod.

How is this mod installed? Is it easy enough to do as a DIY?

hey ya'll,
I just did this to my Porsche back in June, using the LN Engieering Adaptor. The cost was about $167. This got me the Spin-on Oil Filter Adaptor, the NAPA Gold Filter, the magnetic drain plug, plus shipping. It was very easy to install and now it's just like changing the filter on my Rover or Corvette.
Well worth it IMO...........
C'ya,

C'ya,

Plus 1, make sure you have a 26mm socket available.

how much do the replacement spin on filters go for and is that size available at local Huto parts stores? I think I would do this mod if they were?

Wow didn't know about this fitment mod needed, great to know this. I've used Mobil 1 filters for quite a long time now, and it's true not all filters are made the same, especially when using synthetic.

Have had mine on for around 3 years, I guess, also with the magnetic drain plug. Crazy not to do it, IMHO. First used Napa then moved to Mobil 1 filters as they can be had on special at Autozone with discounted oil. For instance, I last got 5 Qts Castrol Edge 5W-40 and a Mobil 1 filter for $32 times 2, so I end up with extra Mobil 1 filters, or I get them for my other cars. That's far less than even just the oil by the quart, normally. Dropped my oil pan a few weeks ago when I installed my IMS Guardian, and pan was spotless inside, nothing on the magnet. Filters with adapters have only been on for about 20k miles, though (car as 47k), but still, nice to see. Only downside, a lot harder to inspect the filter media for debris.

I don't see the point in doing the conversion. I use the filter from local parts store on daily driver and just buy Mahler filter in bulk..
