gu9cci -

I don't know about MeanRob, but I was hoping to find out about the mod to remove the airbox muffler that I've seen mentioned, not upgrading it to the 997 box. It's supposed to improve the sound.

Are you talking about modifying the existing intake box?
I replaced the stock wrinkled tube to a single silicone tube. I've also deleted the H resonator or whatever it's called and plugged the hole. I've also drilled holes at the bottom of the air box.

Mod

fabspeed makes a kit and schnell, you block the hemholtz resosonator( small opening on the top of the box). There kit comes with the block off plug and the new hose for the larger opening on the box. I tried it and did not hear a difference. I also tried the Evo intake and settled with the K/n intake. If you want more sound replace the mufflers or modify them with a gundo hack or Darin fister mufflers. Just my 2 cents from a guy who wasted some time and money to get a little better sound. The intake will sound better but when I coupled it with a set of Fister mufflers (225.00) for the pair, the sound was great.

Yes I am talking about eliminating the "air box muffler" that's located inside the air box. And blocking off the small elbow pipe that's connected to the big elbow intake pipe. It adds 1.5 Liters cold air by eliminating muffler in airbox. This allows engine to draw cold air across entire topside of air box (left and right rather than just from the right).42 seconds faster acceleration 3000-6000 RPM. 4 ply silicone tube - better flow from airbox to throttle body. No C.E.L. light as you retain the factory MAF plastic screen/grill to straighten out airflow. 25% better Airflow = More Power
