Porsche newbie looking for help..
Hey everyone,
Not sure where else I should post this so I am doing it here..
As you can see from the number of posts I am a new member. I have been driving bimmers for a number of years but I feel like it's time for a change for something more unique (and well if I am honest step up my game a bit ) . I have heard that Porsche's are "da bomb".. Anyway I love the way that bimmers drive, all the great feedback to driver. My problem is I know very little about Porsche's so I am here to educate myself. Can some of you provide some input of what is a good model to get, preferably $40K or under (Cdn that is..). Ideally like anyone I am looking for biggest bang for the buck. I am in no hurry. I anticipate that my purchase is at least a year out, if not further. I am looking for something I can own long term and mod (tastefully of course) that has some good power and handling yet not overkill in the Hp DEPT considering the speeding laws in Ontario..
Any advice is appreciated.

You won't get much action here...your budget dictates a 996 most likely so I'll move it there...I would think in your area you would want awd ...so you are probably looking at a c4 or a turbo

You want the biggest bang for the buck? Buy in the US and import it to Canada!!! For 40K in Canada you *might* find an 03 C2 (if you're lucky!). In the US you *might* find a turbo for the same money.
996s seem to be about 10K more expensive up here. I bought my car in Utah this summer, benefits:
- a desert car that's never seen snow and rarely seen rain
- saved at *least* 10K Once I factor in ALL expenses
As a note, the import process isn't nearly as bad as you might think.

Thanks for the replies guys..Yes I have a feeling once a move up to Porsche I will enjoy the experience...if I do get the itch to drive a bimmer I can always drive my wife's soon to be a 2011 X3 or newer 335xi sedan (still trying to figure out what to get...)
Yes Fozzybear, I will definitely look into importing from the US, especially from a "dry state". No matter what anyone says winter definitely ruins a car with all the salt and snow..
I will research the 996 vs the 997..
