Frankly, I would stay at 18. Keep in mind that regardless of rim size the diameter of the wheel (rim + tire) should remain OEM specs: ~ 25.07". Thus, the larger the rim the shorter the sidewall. The shorter the sidewall the bumpier the ride. And, no, plus sizing wheels does not make the any car look lower. Only specific lowering springs do.

Cool

I guess some would say "Looks" as a benefit, but personally, I think the 996 is too small in profile to support 20" wheels. Makes it look like a Hot Wheels car.

20" would typically be heavier wheel/tire combination adding to unsprung weight and adversly affecting handleing. You need some sidewall flex to get good cornering.

19's maybe, but 20's.....not for me.

I'd go with 19's at the most on a 996.

Some valid reasons above, but also keep in mind driving on 20's completely changes the way the 996 drives.

19 inch RG5's....yummmmm

I would go with the 19's. 20's will look funny on the car not to mention make it a harsh ride.

As soon as go through the tires on my 19s, I am going to go back to 18 wheels/tires.

no benefit to 20 inch wheels on a 996. harsh ride. more expensive tires. no improvement with performance/handling.

18 works great. light weight and proper height.

any time the rim is upsized, the car just look like they are raised. also, the added weight makes the car slower to accelerate and brake.

going up in size reduces torque. i would prefer going to 17s for track events.

better yet, get pss10s to lower car to tires.

Do you care about looks or performance?

20's can't be good for performance.

I can't say I'm a fan of the look either, but that's a personal matter. If you like the look and don't care about the cons...
