996 conversion to turbo/twin turbo
I have a stock 2000 Porsche c2 cabriolet and wondering what the best way to go about converting my non turbo to either a twin turbo or turbo. What kits should I go with? Will this damage the existing engine? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

IMA does a twin turbo kit and TPC does a single turbo kit. You are new here so avoid the trash talk and do a search. Also post some photo's of your car and let us know what route you go with.

First thing I did was a search. I knew about the TPC single kit and it pushes over 500hp compared to the IMA twin turbo that only boost 150extra. Must be some smaller turbos I guess. Any other reputable companies worth looking at?

There's not a lot of options in this field. Whether or not your engine grenades depends on it's current condition internally and the quality of the install/tune.
I recommend you get the car a health check with compression/leakage numbers first. Then make sure who ever does it is familiar with the potential complications of adding this type of system.

Ive seen a couple in the neighborhood of 30-35k... Back in august I found an 02 with 93k miles, yes yes high mileage but about 5 inches worth of paperwork and receipts for it. He was asking 30k flat (listed on Cars.com for less than a week before it was snatched up.)
I would have jumped on it, but couldnt get financed on such an "old" and "high mileage" car. Alas I bought my 99 996 in cash, and I'm saving up for a TPC kit.
To be frank, I'd rather have a nice 930 turbo or 993 turbo over a 996/7 turbo. JMHO

I've got the IMA Twin Turbo kit on my car and am very happy with it. G/L with your search.

I am installing TPC turbo on my car as we speak. I will let you know how it is when I am done. As far as cost go I will have about the same as if I had bought a tt. I wAnted a rear wheel drive and couldn't justify a gt 2 so this was my other choice.

+1, you're dumping the same amount of money as buying one most likely, but at least by buying one you're getting the reliability/resale/other benefits (looks for example).

QFT. Just buy a 996Turbo

It's easy for you guys to say buy tt. It's another to do it. You have to sell the one you have. Mine is paid for and I have all records without a single problem. Easier to upgrade and just make it like you want it. After you sell then you have to find one in as good shape and low miles like the one you had, then the price is quite a bit higher than the steal at 40000. Besides I just like somethin different and I and some others don't like the all wheel drive.

Matt,
You are far more likely to get strong money for your car as is. I will be far harder to sell if you Turbo it. The right person will pay handsomly for a good stock car.
For the most part Turbo's are done depreciating at $40Kish ( other that really high mile and story cars) so you'll spend far less in the long run of you go that route.
I considered doing the same thing that you are talking about.
