Introduction and supercharger question
Hi all. I'm the proud owner of my second Porsche. This latest one is similar to my last in that it's a 2000 C4 (I never did get over parting with my last one). But this newer one has an Evo supercharger.
Being brand new to superchargers, I thought I'd ask if anyone could share some advice on what I need to know, e.g., do they need special TLC? What kind of lifespan and/or extra cost of ownership should I expect?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any insight, and glad to have found the group!

nice, i notice your in California. Is the SC smog legal? Just wondering because I'm looking for turbo/sc options that I don't have to remove or "pay" a smog guy to look the other way when doing a smog.

Really glad you brought that up. I purchased the car rather spontaneously, and learned after the fact that it hadn't yet been smogged (they told me they would simply do it along with my registration next week). Being from the east coast, I didn't think much of it -- but from what I now understand, it's illegal to sell a car that hasn't been smogged.
They seem like a pretty stand up outfit (they unflinchingly paid for a new Mass sensor when I discovered it needed it), but I don't trust car dealers as a matter of principle. Given that I bought the car hastily, and didn't have it checked out as thoroughly as I should have, I'm going to have it checked out on Monday. If I find anything too alarming, the fact that I bought it without a smog check will become a serious legal issue.
Am I overlooking anything? I should probably get it smogged independently, in any case, right?
Thanks!

In California - no smog, no registration. In order to get the smog, the smog machine reports the information directly to the DMV and anyone who "looks the other way" is crazy, they will lose their license/business.

It's a beauty, nicely modded! I'm sure that it will pass the emissions measurement portion; however, this visual inspection may or may not be an issue. I would suggest having the LN Engineering upgrades installed ASAP. I hope that it works out for you, I look forward to seeing more pics.

I'm still researching it, but I can't say that I'm in a hurry to spend over $4k on something that I'm told affects 4% of owners. Of course, if I hadn't already spent $4k more than I'd initially intended, I might see things differently. I'd love to hear others' opinion.
