If you had.....

If you had only $1,000 to mod or customize a stock 996, how would you spend the money?

The mod subject is like beating a dead horse

$1K is not a lot of money. I would do FisterD mufflers and a B&M short shift. Those two mods are the best bang for the buck.

Decent suspension will cost over $1K even buying used after install and alignment. I would never buy used suspension; saving up and buying X74 new is the way to go on that topic.

I would choose 2 out of the following:

New Euro M030 Suspension ($600)
GT3 or GT3RS wheel alignment ($250)
Second hand IPD Plenum ($400 to $700)
Second hand Fabspeed x-pipes ($600 to $800)

I presented this question because Ive had my 996 since August and it is still stock, I had a 97 boxster that I had for 5 years before it was vandalized and totaled by insurance. By the time it was totaled, I had spent over 8k in mods and upgrades on the car over the 5 years.

I guess I like to start slowly, especially since I'm looking for a new job, finishing up college, and Im soon to have student loans to repay, therefore I dont plan on spending more than $1000 on mods and customizing the car until it goes into storage in December.

So for the short term, Im trying to decide on which DIY mods/cust Id like to spend my weekends doing.

Thanks for the input

I'd go with Fister D mufflers first. What you do next is hard to say. You'll have roughly $700 and change to work with. You could replace the head unit and put something more modern in place that has bluetooth, iPod, Sirius XM, etc. However, you'll really get more benefit from replacing the speakers, and to do that right will cost you more than $700. The short shift kit is an excellent idea. I would consider that mod in your budget. I would put European clear side markers on. I would put in a new, fresh set of floor mats (unless yours are already in great shape). You might consider bumper plugs for your front bumper, or perhaps painted bumperettes for the rear. Once you get beyond these simple things, it starts adding up fast.
