996 JL Audio System

Just wanted to post some photos of my Stereo System.

1) Kenwood DNX7100 Nav/ Head Unit
2) JL Audio 500/5 Amp
3) 4" JL Audio Dash Speakers
4) 6.5" JL Audio Door Speakers
5) (3) 8" JL Audio Subwoofers

They sound amazing but hit on the high end. I want low end, so I will be doing 2 10" JL's in a large ported box.

Wow that is awesome, I have a convert so it'salittle tricky for the speakers. But I will add something more pretty soon.

Today I just finished adding a Clarion CZ200.

It sounds great, controls my iphone from the unit, has a back usb plug, front input.

It was tricky but it fits perfect now, couldn't be happier.

Now I just need to find something to replace the cd holder thing.

I want to change my Head Unit because the DNX7100 wont link to my 160GB iPod. And (3) 8"s hit to high. I want more low end response. I think 2 ported 10's would be perfect.

Using a ported box does not mean your subs are going to have lower, better, or cleaner bass. You need to follow the recommendations from the manufacturer of the particular sub as to whether your box should be ported or sealed. And the manufacturer will tell you how many cubic feet the interior volume of your box should be in order to get the best sound. I didn't know Clarion allows iPod control on the head unit like Alpine does. The Alpine controls are great and they provide a wire that goes from the head unit with an iPod connector on the other end that you plug right into the iPod. I have mine coming through the back of the storage cubby so my iPod sits right in the cubby.

A port is used to tune a box. The length of the port and the size of the port's opening will dictate what frequency (or range of frequencies) to enhance and by how much.

I worked as a shop manager for a high end retailer that sold JL speakers and amps for years. JL produces a binder which they called "the JL bible" which is distributed to it's authorized dealers annualy. The book listed 100's of box configuations for all of the subs in their line with sealed/ported/bandpass applications across the entire product line. Boxes were rated for sound quality and loudness, and variations were offered to accomplish any mix of the two.

I have not been able to find that information online, but JL does have a guide that spells out the port tuning formulas (math HEAVY read) http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=165

Dash- I actually have 2 of them in the lower 2 spots above the batwing. The DSP controls and the cassette tape holder used to be in those spots.
