Electronic Cleaner MAF Success

Electronic Cleaner MAF Success
I installed a K&N FIPK today after much debate, but I could not resist VR Speed factory's $235 & free shipping price. I thought, why not and give it a whirl...
Anyhow, I installed it and after a couple of miles the CEL pops on and the idle begins to surge a bit. So a few expletives later I went back home and started doing some research. I found a few good write ups on cleaning the maf using electronic cleaner and went to Radio Shack and bought a can.
1) Disconnected the battery
2) Removed MAF from K&N tube (carefully)
3) Sprayed the cleaner generously over the entire maf, all small holes, pretty much doused the whole thing.
4) let sit for about an hour on a clean paper towel
5) re-install MAF
6) Connect battery
Then came the test run and for about 45 miles, several WOT and a mix of highway/city driving and I have no CEL or rough idle. I guess the light could still come on, but the fact it did not go off within the first few minutes, like the two other times, I think the maf must of been contaminated from either mishandling or the oily filter. Either way, it seems as though this is a must try before scrapping your maf and going for a new one.

Many do not and this might cause a CEL due to the sudden increase in airflow caused by the new filter. Hence the disconnecting the battery for a few minutes afterwards allowing the ECU to reset might cure the problem without touching the MAF. :-)

Did you disconnect the battery while installing the K&N?

I disconnected the battery before i removed the maf, it was my first step. Either way, I think the K&N is better off being used with a a dry filter, like the AEM.
