Which oil viscosity range to use Mobile 1?

I live in Southern California, and have always used 10-w30. After reading the manuel, it says if you live in "higher tempertures to use

10-w40
15-w40
15-w50.

I am interested in running the 15-w50, any suggestions? I searched another guy who used 0-w40 on his p car. Thanks

I m solving a valve stick problem too, its making a loud noise, so the first thing is to change the oil and see if it works.
thanks

I have always been told to use Mobil 1 0-40.... however the Indy I am going to has changed that recommendation to Mobil 1 5-50... We will finish the service, IMS bearing retrofit and clutch next week and I plan on asking what prompted the change... I live in Socal as well...

I can tell you from experience 15W50 will make your car run hotter and oil pressure way higher than you are used to seeing. The factory recommends 0W40 but here in the Arizona heat I use 5W40.

I use Mobil 0-W40. I would keep it light weight; or no more than 5-W40.

I suspect your indy is recommending a thicker viscosity to better lubricate your new IMS bearing. A happy medium may be Mobil 1 5-W40.

For SoCal...5W-40.

I haven't investigated 5W-50 but I might...Mobil 1 seems to "thin out" (1/4 bar lower oil pressures) due to high temperature/high shear over a few thousand miles, and the -50 might build in some better protection for hotter/higher stress areas of the engine over time. Or, I may swap over to another brand to see if it behaves similarly after a couple thousand miles.

As for "valve sticking"...do you mean that the engine has a ticking sound, especially at idle? That sounds like (pun intended...groan) a bad hydraulic valve lifter. From what I've read, once they get crudded up and stick, the only course of action is to replace them. Definitely see if oil change helps. Also, get out and give the engine a good workout with a vigorous drive--show it some revs. I've had an intermittent ticking noise at idle once or twice that a blast on my local backroads cures completely.

thanks 02tx,
It first started at a groan, and i thought the spark plugs were bad since i had a misfire #5 from a read, so i replaced the plugs and check engine light went away. Now its a loud ticking noise. Im gonna try the oil change. I did take it out at high rpms. Let me try the fwy. Sounds like somethings gonna pop out, but in deed its the valve lifters.
Would using the valve lifter oil work? I hear it quiets the noise down a bit, but it still there.
Back to the oil i guess ill switch to 5w-40.. I was thinking of the 5-50.

The PO used Mobil1 0-30 exclusively but on the LN site, I went with 5-40 for the higher ZDDP content.

My Indy switched me from Mobil 1 0w40 to Castrol Syntech 5W40. I
Feel like I notice it to make slightly more of a ticking noise at idle when I first start it up. Can't hear anything at all different when you're driving it though. Thoughts?

Has run fine for about 1700 miles since he did it. No temp or CEL issues. Switch was done at the time of an IMS retrofit.

Any thoughts on the click/tick from my last post? I can't be the only person who has noticed this...
