V1 bracket and Mirror

Bob, I started this thread so we could keep track of the information better. Per msindi's request, would you please give details of the bracket? How its mounted to the rear, what parts from Home Depot, etc.

Also, what kind of a mirror is it? - How much do you think it should cost now? Thanks.

Actually, it was pretty easy. As you can see from the pic, I measured the bracket height making sure it would be above the glass and rear wing when extended. Then got a piece of 2" aluminum from home depot. Bent it in a vice and then got some 2-3 inch shrink wrap - the kind used for wiring - and used a heat gun to shrink it to size. Getting around the bends was a little bit of a hassle but it work. Added some velcro on the top for the V1.

Tucked the bracked under the Bose sub and put the seat back - stays firmly in place.

Wires run up the center rear console. I originally had the V1 remote unit in one of the cubby trays until I got the mirror. Both work.
The V1 is out of the way and it works as good as on the windshield

What’s the story on the mirror? - I do not think I ever saw that before. Do you have a model number and/or manufacturer?

mirrors are tough to come buy. Got mine about a year ago when they were being advertised. Originally priced in the neignborhood of $700. when they didn't sell at that price I saw them on e-bay for $200-300.

One was being sold on e-bay for $120 about 10 days ago.

There is one other place that I have seen selling them within the past 6 months but I can't remember where. If I can find it, I'll post

Why not just use this one for the Porsche?

Supposedly aidesign.com handles the v1 mirror for p-cars, but I have not yet spoken to them as yet.

Does anyone know if the BMW mirror could easily be used in a 996? If so, this will be next month's project--V1 + mirror!

They would consider a group buy.

Given the price of the equipment and the install, the remote mounted Passport SRX (SR7 with ZR3 laser shifters) may be a close call.
