996- best year / worst year?

Hello all, wondering if there are any production years to avoid. Assuming same mileage and wear, any years associated with construction issues that one would want to avoid?

Thanks

Interesting question.

I'd imagine that the last years of production would be best, earlier years always have kinks to iron out.

Cheers,

Sid.

99 best year IMO. Just go on eBay & buy a road & track or car&driver for the year your looking for. Thats what I did and ended up with a 99 Areo. And couldn't be happier.

99...love the look of the MKII's but 99's were least affected by the engine failure issues.

I'd like to know what facts/research you're basing that on.

i think somehow this got reversed? i wanted a 99 Aero as its the best looking 996.. but there were so many engine failure issues that I was forced to go with an MKII.

I'd maybe consider a 2001 Aero though?

I have an early 99 (built date April 98) currently at 47K on the clock. Not one leak or drop of fluids. Obviously, not a daily driver. Yet, religiously maintained, and driven hard in it's short runs as a P-car should be. I believe that is the key to longevity or minimal engine (parts) failure.

i think that's a little bit of an over simplification.. obviously there were some changes in 2002, and then again in 2005.

Yeah, but then IMS problem never got resolved 'til the new engine design in late 2008 or 2009 from what I've gathered.

Perhaps not, but other issues (D-chunk?) seem to be mostly resolved in later model years.
