slightly off topic: Hidden Garage Door Opener
Does anyone know of a remote-able, hide-able garage door opener? I hate having the thing bouncing around the cabin or clamped to the sun visor. I would really like to use a factory dash momentary switch and wire it into a hidden garage door opener, maybe behind the front bumper fascia. Ideas?

I hid a garage door opener under the center console, but it could easily be put in the dash. Its an easy hack. See http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/albur29. I think I bought the switch from Suncoast. It comes in matte and gloss - be sure to check the part number.

Flash2Pass!

Easy install, just splice into the high beam wires, and a module in the garage itself. You can also install the car module in other cars by buying extras. Then just flash the high beams twice and the garage door opens/closes. Nothing shows. I have had it for 5+ years and love it.

In my old Boxster, I picked up an old homelink rearview mirror (from a Cadillac Catera) for $12 from ebay. Pulled out the homelink "guts" box and integrated it into bat-wing hardwiring off center console phone power cable.
installed...
Just trim off fins inside batwing and either drill or dremel button holes carefully using shell from mirror as a template.
Good luck

Here's another DiY approach that uses and unused console button (assuming you have any)

I made my own. Finished install today. The garage door remote, strangely enough, employed a small 12V battery, about half the size of a AA. A HA! Easy, that. I jumpered the switch that puts the little beastie into transmit so that it was on all the time, then just wired the power supply to a momentary OEM switch in the dash - the one from Suncoast for relocating the whaletail switch to the dash. The actual transmitter circuit board is housed in a little ABS project box below the left headlight assembly, one wire from dash to the box, and a short wire to ground. Seems to work good so far. No more remote cluttering up or bouncing around the cabin!
Next project, HID low beams.....
