My Passport 8500 has worked like a dream and it was $150 cheaper than the V1.

I have a passport SR7, i think it works very well, It is hardwired with I think 6 sensors, A couple of times it has told me from far away of speed traps and saved me a coupe of times already. It also looks very clean and once installed its pretty small in the dash.

I don't want to get into the V1 versus Passport debate (I've owned both), but has anyone tried to take either detector, enclose it in some weatherproof case and mount it in the front bumper? Theoretically, the remote display for either unit should be adequate for alerting the driver. I drive a C4S cab, and prefer not to have my unit mounted inside the car. I also don't think $1500 for the passport remote unit is worth it. I am willing to sacrifice some of the missed alerts and/or directional arrows etc. by moving the unit outside the cabin....

Cool

Solo S2 does NOT pick up POP.
I have an 8500 and am about to upgrade to the 8500 X 50 for POP detection.

V1...Live by the arrows!

Can also be a regional issue. In SC, the common bands used
are K, Ka, and laser.

Yeah, I saw Radar Roy's report, read the whole thing, his overall rating on the S2 was 5 stars, V1 4 1/2 stars. The S2 picked up every band at 4 miles, yes the V1 did it at 4.3 miles, so what. The V1 also had the worst score on the filtering test. By it's cordless nature, the S2 is relatively ineffective against POP, however, if you use the power cord it stays on all the time and picks up POP. He also refers to the V1 as the 'chicken little of radar detectors' due to the unacceptable number of false alarms. Only very recently did V1's even pick up POP (version 1.8 and up, 1-1.7 don't), and they may not pick up POP3 at all.
FWIW, mine is a daily driver, I only need to change batteries every 30 days or so. Well worth it for me not to have some dorky cord draped across my interior.

Advanced Logic mode seems to be helping with the falses... I guess it pays to actually read the instructions...

I thought that it was X band that gives false alarms at grocery stores. Isn't K band valuable information or am I wrong?

Has anyone actually tried the remote V1 offered by these guys?

I am close to pulling the trigger on a purchase, but I prefer to have my detector installed out of sight.

Everyone needs to go to http://Jammertests.com and see the videos of the V1 beating the X50 in radar and laser detection. The V1 detects laser when the X50 detects nothing in one video and the V1 wins in POP detection and instant-on radar.

Well I just got the RX65 since the X50 does not detect KU-Band and they use that in some countries in Europe. The V1 is also a great product but I don´t need those arrovs......I just slow down when it starts making noise :-)
