2004 996 CS4 vs 2006 996 CS4

Hi, I am a first time Porsche buyer looking at a C4s Is there any significant difference between the 2004 or 2006. Also can anyone help me with the right questions to ask other than maintenance History and having a non dealer PPI. Thanks for the help. Can't wait for the purchase!!!

There is no such thing as a 2006 996 C4S. 997s were being produced in 2006. There are a handful of 2005 996 C4Ss out there--pretty rare though. But from 02-05 the C4Ss are pretty similar, I don't think there are any major differences.

Thanks. Any recommendations on what to ask the seller?

Of course service history--especially if the RMS or IMS have been replaced. If so, then check to see if the clutch was changed at the same time.

Check out the tires and look for tire wear. Is the tire wear consistent? Is there a pull when driving?
When braking does the car pull? under hard-braking does it pull?
Was the car raced?
What octane gas did they put into the car? (I know, I know...I'm AR)

If doing a non-dealer PPI, which is the route I took as well, make sure the dealer who does the PPI is extremely knowledgeable in all facets of Porsche. I am sure you know this, but this isn't like bringing a Honda to a local auto-shop for a PPI....this is going to be a real-live jEN-u-WINE Sports Car, meant to be driven like you stole it.

My two cents....I hope it helps.

That is really helpfull. Thank you very much. They are both out of state but this helps when making a decision to go and pick up the car after a PPI blessing

Z, just keep the rear end of your 996 c4s and do with it what you will. 997 can't compare, imho

Don't mean to highjack this thread but Why do some dislike the 997 while others love the 997?

I can live with the 996 headlights, and have actually grown into them, but I could not live without the 996 C4S rear end. Ergo, 996 for me.

Yea I agree, while the interior is a little more updated on the 997 the 996 c4s has a great ***, and I've always been a *** man, 996 c4s for me . It just looks so damn sexy.

C4s

Since you are asking for recommendations, I would get the latest model year, lowest mileage, in bestest condition that I could afford. With that I have a 2004 C4S with the only mods being a SS, K&N intake kit and PSE hack and I love it!!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I replaced the radio with a Kenwood DD. Porsche radios are terrible.
