996 car battery
Just had a dealer quote for a simple new car battery replacement and at USD$364.80 it seems a tad excessive. Does anyone know type and size of OEM replacement and what that should run typically? I mean, can I go to a VW dealer and get the same battery for $150?

Go to autozone, Pepboys, or walmart. I believe it is a group size 48. Make sure it has the vent tube. You MUST use it.
Most of these places computer will say it is a group size 49 but that one it about 2 inches longer.
Should run you around $120ish

I put an Interstate battery in mine about 3 years ago and I have not had any issues with it as of yet. Here is a link with a bunch of options to go with.

I just replaced mine myself. Interstate MP-90, I believe. Cost after tax $128. Same thing here, stealership wanted $325 to replace it. It was difficult to replace at all and comes with 84 month warranty.

I just had a new one installed.
Not sure about the size, but it was an interstate battery and it ran me about $150 installed.
+1 about making sure there is a vent tube attached.

There aren't many battery manufacturers in the country so they're all made by a few companies.

VENT TUBE??? I just replaced mine at Kragan two hours ago. $171, group 48 and the new one does not seem to have anywhere for the battery to vent.. am I missing something?

you should take it back to kragen and get it fixed. the battery comes with with a vent tube and holes either at the top or on the sides for venting. make sure you have this installed or you risk having gas trapped inside your front hood.
