Wow, thats increadible (not really in a good way)... They're about 400 Euros give or take a few here in Germany. I could have shipped that to you down to Greece and it would have been cheaper...

Porsche MAFs, especially on the 996, are notoriously touchy, and oiled filters tend to foul them very easily. And the 996 motor is already very well tuned from the factory and there's very little you can do to it to make more power short of a supercharger. Even the X51 kit doesn't do a ton, and that's a very expensive factory option.

The only thing aftermarket intakes do is give you more sound. Most of the time they introduce hot engine bay air and actually reduce power.
Actually i wasted 300$. And secondly, this is what i wanted to acheive from the start, deep nice sound over 4000rpm. Do you think that i believe K & N's claims of gaining 25 hp?lol!
And i think is far more economical way instead of changing mufflers(about 1000$).

From what I read they come over oiled but that was years ago so I'm not sure if they've changed their process but to be on the safe side you might want to.

To clean, here's a link http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm .

Something interesting I noticed is that the New GT3 RS 4.0 uses a K&N style filter (cotton) high flow intake system as a factory standard. So it seems Porsche realizes that 5-9 whp is worth it. I'm quite sure they didn't do it for the "sound".

Hey I just bought Schnell (means fast in German) intake for my 01 996 total cost $100 plus shipping. Vertexauto.com This is one of the best simple intakes you can buy on the market. I talked to a few owners who had this adds a few hp and guarantees to increase gas mileage. The secret? keep smooth flows through the air box and never have the filter shown open.

Makes a great sound , and if you add the Fister D PSE hack exhaust even better, Performance wise i wouldn't believe those claims, either way its worth the money sound alone

I have a K&N in mine... what's up with the "sock"? Do I need it? Can I remove it? Is it important? Looks like I can do without it, but it's there for a reason, right?

I had an evolution motorsports cold air intake (which imho is better than the K&N). I'm selling it now though to raise money for a nickies upgrade.
